Dead to Sin!
Hey guys, before I get into this, I felt like writing a sermon, instead of a “Blog Post,” Its my first Sermon ever, so please be mindful of that, I think it has some good truths, and ill be editing it through out the week. Thanks!
Dead to Sin!
Could you live with someone who has died? Would they be any help to you? Would they clean the dishes while you did the laundry?
No of course not that would be ridiculous, that’s why you have kids! Honestly though, that wouldn’t make any sense, the dead corpse would be no help to you. I mean just imagine, you keeping a dead corpse lying around your house, and you waiting for it to not only move, but for it to be an active part of your life, by helping you and overall making your life easier. That’s not possible!
Open to Romans 6
Let’s take a look at what Paul has to say about this;
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
GRACE! That is ultimately the main idea of this passage, but if we look a little bit deeper into the text we see a comparison, between life in Christ and life in sin. IF SIN IS DEAD THEN WHY WOULD WE LIVE IN IT!!! Let’s remember back to that comparison I gave at the beginning a few minutes ago, why would we live with a dead corpse?? It couldn’t do anything helpful. Well the same concept applies here. Why live in sin, if we are dead to it (assuming you are a Christian) there is no reason to try pleasing it.
- You can’t please your earthly desires and God.
We cannot please both, just like it says later on in Romans, a slave cannot have more than one master, for the master that owns him is his master, he cannot expect to please more than one master. We cannot please our sinful desires and bring glory to God at the same time.
So instead of trying to accomplish both, let’s just give it to God, allow Him to take care of our fear, stress, and depression, and lets live a life that pleases God.
I once heard someone say this
“If you have a girlfriend, you obviously want to do nice things for her and make her happy so show that you love her. Well what if you were also giving gifts and loving an ex.”
IT WOULDN’T WORK, YOU CANT PLEAS BOTH!!!! The same thing applies to God, if you Love God and then you turn around and satisfy your sinful desires, then what does that tell God?? It shows that you aren’t really in the game to win. That’s why the Christian life takes 100% effort, not 50% or anything less.
We are adopted into Gods family, the word adopt really means that all ties are broken from your original family, seems kind of harsh huh? THINK about it, you are adopted into Christ’s family! All ties to your sinful original family (which in this case is sin) are broken, you are free, so don’t look back on what you had, but instead look forward to future glory waiting for you in heaven with Christ. God loves you too much to see you living in sin, that’s why He sent his son! He didn’t have to send His son, you know, but because He loves you HE BANKRUPTED HEAVEN! Sent Jesus to this earth to live as flesh and bone, to be tempted and to eventually take every one of your sins personally. The pain was not in the physical abuse or hurt, the pain was the wrath of HIS DAD, GOD THE FATHER, was upon Him, God turned His back, and for the First time Jesus was without God’s presence, until He died on the cross.
So the question that I ask you is, does God love you? I think that’s a no brainer at this point.
“God so LOVED THE WORLD, that He gave His one and only son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal live!”
Go so what??? HE SO LOVED the WORLD, that’s proof, its evidence. If everything in the Bible is true, which it is, then God loves US SO MUCH that He sent His son.
If that doesn’t give you joy my friend then I don’t know what will, because that provides hope and it shows that even on earth if everything seems lost, and if it seems like no one is there for you, and that no one likes you, that you still have God. You have the God who SENT HIS SON, for you. That’s better than any friend you may make, or any relationship you may have.
When you’re attacked by the devil, and when you seem so down you see no options for your life, remember that God has called you to do bigger and better things that you could imagine, you want to know how I know? Because He wouldn’t have sent His son to die for you if he knew that you would be no use, so don’t tell yourself your pointless, because God knows you’re not, and if God knows you’re not then it doesn’t matter what some punk on the playground thinks of you!
I want to leave you with this
“You are dead to sin, and Alive in Christ!”
