Holy Spirit?

God, Jesus, Holy Bible?

Where have we gone wrong and how do we fix it? What is the importance of the Holy Spirit, and why do we look over Him so often?

In the modern church you don’t always here sermons about the Holy Spirit, you know? Like we just kind of start the service by saying a quick prayer asking the Spirit to speak to us, and we just leave it at that. Well I am here to tell you that the Spirit has a much Bigger job than just being a part of a prayer at the beginning of a service. (I am not dissing churches, however unfortunately this is a truth, and I feel like I need to clarify what role the Spirit plays in our lives, in case we have never heard it before).

So we need to first establish that the Holy Spirit is just as much God as Jesus, He is part of the trinity and no less God than The Father.  So the trinity can be confusing but I will put it into simpler terms.

The Father = 100% God

The Son = 100% God

The Spirit = 100% God

It is important to note that they are all the SAME God, and not 3 different Gods. Also important to note that each piece of the Trinity is not 1/3 God, they are all 100% God. However it is also important to understand that The Father, The Son, and The Spirit are not the same in fact they are 3 separate “Binging’s”. I know, I know, very confusing, but that is the awesomeness of our God. We can’t even begin to understand His being, and it shows how small we are and how big, God is.

Acts 1 : 1-5

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus was the one who wanted to spread the Gospel the most, so why does He tell them[apostles] to wait? He[Jesus] tells them to wait for the gift that the Father has promised to come down once Jesus ascends, which is the Holy Spirit.

Jesus has to ascend for the Spirit to come, as it says in John;

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Why did Jesus have to go for them to receive the Spirit?

“For Empowering to occur, it’s a little more complicated. The disciples were going to be empowered to help them go and tell others about Jesus. Those people would have to believe their words (John 17:20) to be justified by faith. If Jesus had NOT gone away, it would be simple for everyone to just “go check Him out”, see the risen Lord, and prove it. There would be nothing to believe or not believe, there would only be proof that everyone would go check out, so there would be no justification by faith. And there would be no sense empowering the disciples with a measure of faith (Romans 12:3) to do anything because Jesus would be here and would have the Spirit of God without measure. The woman at the well in Samaria ran into something similar (John 4:39-42). At first people believed in Christ because of her words. But then others believed because they went and listened to Him directly, so until His ascension she was out of a job, so to speak.”

That’s the first part, and I wanted too explain the way that we are able to get the Holy Spirit, which is why I explained how it came onto us. Its important to note that the apostles could not have done ministry as effectively as they did without the Spirit.

What role does the Spirit play in your life and in my life today though? Well it actually plays a lot of roles.

Once we are saved and belong to God, the Spirit takes up residence in our hearts forever, sealing us with the confirming, certifying, and assuring pledge of our eternal state as His children. Jesus said He would send the Spirit to us to be our Helper, Comforter, and Guide. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever” (John 14:16).

Counselor is translated, “to walk along side,” how awesome is that, that you have God, walking along side with you everyday, living and dwelling inside you!9if you are saved)

I have also heard an interesting idea, now I have not done a whole lot of research on this topic, but in 1st John, it talks about how God is LOVE. Well we know that the Holy Spirit is God, and if that is so, we have the Spirit dwelling in us. So we have physical Love at its purest form living and dwelling inside of us. GODS LOVE, the same love of the God that sent His son to die for you, yes that love. We know from Hebrews 11, that Love is the greatest. “faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.” So the Spirit is love and He is dwelling inside of us, and by the way we live the love radiates from us to others who may not have a relationship with God.

The Spirit also intercedes for us. Since we are Humans we have absolutely no idea what to pray about so that’s when the Holy Ghost comes into play.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

So the key point I am trying to get to you, is don’t just think you have a god above you looking down on you. You have a God that Dwells inside of you and pours His love on you and radiates His love from you constantly. You have a God that counsels and comforts you in time of despair and hurt. You have a God that walks along side you and is with you every step of the way whether you want Him there or not.  God loves you and He wants to see you grow spiritually. You Have a God that just doesn’t Love you, but He is the perfect definition of Love, and there is nothing greater!

I challenge you to take 10 minutes of your day for the next 10 days, and just sit in your room, or in a private place. Just sit and be still, meditate on what God has done for you that day and count your blessings. Just sit in Gods love, in Gods good, perfect, destroyable, undeniable LOVE! Then go out and show that Love to the world, because why? Because there is nothing greater that LOVE!
