What is Gods silence and what does the term God being silent actually mean? Have you ever asked God “Why?” I’m sure we all have at one point in time. I mean that seems to be our first reaction right, when something goes wrong ask God why. Have you ever felt like God was not talking with you? like when you were praying there was nobody listening on the other line? Has a loved one passed away and you prayed so hard for them to heal you thought for sure that God would heal them, but he didn’t? Well here is the good news, you are most defiantly not the only one that has gone through this feeling.
Well I want to start at the beginning, did you know that Jesus Himself felt like God had left Him, infect God actually did turn His back on Jesus. When Jesus was on the cross God literally had to turn His back on Jesus because God is perfect and sovereign and cannot be in the presence of sin.
the Bible is broken into two main sections, the Old Testament and the new Testament. we all know this I think, but what a lot of people don’t know is that there is a major time gap between the two sections. The Gap between the Old and New testament is approximately 400years. During this time gap God was completely silent, He literally stopped. There were no miracles, no new prophecies, and it seemed like god was being silent, and your are absolutely right, he was.
- Just because God is Silent doesn’t mean He is not working!
He was preparing for something AWESOME, because after 400 years of Silence, an Angel appears to Mary and tells her that she will have a baby and that her baby is to free the world. God was preparing to start the Best story ever told and that is the Christmas Story(truth).
So yes God was completely silent while He was preparing to send Jesus to the earth. However does this mean that God is silent TODAY! because I mean that is what we are asking here, is God ever silent today, in todays culture. Well lets take a look at what the Bible says.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
This is actually SO important to Gods silence and how it applies to today. TO KNOW that in the Old testament they Jews DID NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT, have the Holy Spirit the same way that we do today. The Holy Spirit is the missing piece.
2. If you have the Holy Spirit, then the only way that God is Silent is if YOU allow Him to.
Ok, so lets go ahead and break this down and dissect what it means, because it may be confusing at first. We have the Spirit now, AMEN, hahah am I right, I mean we have God living inside of us, how much better can that get? I truly believe that if we discipline our selves enough and focus in on the Holy Spirit that God has something for us every second of the day. However its our job to listen.
3. God may seem silent, but we need to make sure we are listening!
This is HUGE, because God is not silent anymore because we have the Spirit actively working in us, HOWEVER we have to make sure that we are activating the spirit in our lives. If we are not tuning into what God has for us then of COURSE ITS GOING TO SEEM LIKE HE IS SILENT. I mean come on.
So does God seem silent in your life? Make sure that you are actively in the Bible everyday. He has a purpose for everything and His timing is better than ours!
