When to Encourage and Who to Encourage? [Part 3 & 4]
So in this sermon I will be condensing part 3 and 4 into one sermon. They are both of shorter length so it just seemed better to put them together in one larger sermon.
When should we encourage? Always!
Who should we encourage? Everyone!
So these seem pretty easy at first glance, but how many of us actually take time to think if we are encouraging everyone that we come into contact with? I’m not saying walk up to every person and give them a handshake and pat on the back. I’m just saying that when people look at us, our overall personality. It should be obvious that we are different.
Let me give you an example, at school the other day I walked up to my Assistant principles and told them thank for the sacrifices that they make to keep the school running in an orderly manner. It was something that was extremely easy to do, and know every time that they look at me I seem different. Why am I different? Well I have Jesus. So the answer to when we should encourage is kind of two parts, we should always live a life that is encouraging to others and the only way to consistently do that is if we have the love of God in us, pouring out of us.
So then the question of Who to encourage? Well I think we can give two different answers here, but in short we should be encouraging every person! However the way we encourage Christians and non-Christians is different. So when we encourage a non-Christian we need to make sure that Love is coming out of us. We have to be sincere and care about that person. They don’t have the spirit so they cannot understand Biblical texts the same.
1st Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
So as you can see our lives should always reflect an encouraging attitude, so meditate on Gods word and allow the Spirit to work through you. I know that this was a shorter sermon. However I think this topic is a little bit more self-explanatory. Please go back and re read How to encourage, it hits a lot of great topics and explains a ton. Please get ready for our next series which I will be releasing shortly!!
