Jehovah Jireh- The Lord will provide.
Very blessed to have Noah bringing you Gods word today! Such a man of God and I truly pray that you gain something from this sermon snippet.
This name is found in Chapter 22 of Genesis. This chapter is about the sacrifice of Isaac. This story is well known in the church because we see how God saves Isaac at the last second and provides a substitute in the form of a ram. Jehovah Jireh is exactly that. When God provided the ram, Abraham took it and sacrificed it in his son’s place. He then named the place Jehovah Jireh or The LORD will provide.
The Lord provided for Abraham by not allowing him to sacrifice his son Isaac. Just the amount of faith to be willing to sacrifice your own son is insane to think about. Abraham loved Isaac immensely. Isaac is the child of promise, how could Abraham not? I think what God was asking Abraham through this whole ordeal is, “Abraham, who do you love more Me? Or your son?” Abraham obeyed God’s call for the sacrifice of Isaac, but at the last moment, a provision was given for him. This is the same for all of us in the person and work of Christ on the cross. When we had no hope and no way to escape our utter and total depravity, the Lord provided. He did more than that, he provided his own perfect, spotless, sinless son to be our lamb to be sacrificed in our place.
