Before people were on the face of the earth a major battle took place, a cosmic battle. The beginning of all war, Micheal (Gods warring archangel) and the armies of God fought Lucifer and his followers. Revelation provides some insight on the battle that took place.
7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon,and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
How you have fallen from heaven,
morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart,
“I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.[a]
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.”
A created being (an angel) decided that he wanted to be like the creator. Let’s examine our LORD’s function in the area of war.
The Lord of Hosts
God created three archangels each in charge (or over) different areas. Gabriel is in charge of telecommunication we see in numerous scripture examples that He is the messenger between heaven and earth. (Daniel 8, 9, Luke 1:18,26) We see Micheal as the warrior angel when daniel prayed he entered in spiritual warfare
13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
Lucifer was in charge of all the praise and worship. However, he rebelled The one who led worship decided that he was as great as God if not greater.
Lord of Hosts is found 282 times in scripture and it is a military reference for “God of Battles.”
Like birds hovering overhead,
the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem;
he will shield it and deliver it,
he will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.”
God is a warrior. he is a fighter and we all are enlisted in His army (Born again Christians that is.) we are all following a warrior who will never lose any battle or war, He even defeats the antichrist. One reason we see weakness in the body of Christ is because we often do not acknowledge that God is the Lord of Hosts, the God of battles. Many Christians think that once they are saved the battle with sin and satan ends and they are safe. However, salvation is actually something we are enlisted in. We join God’s army and war against the spiritual forces of the earth.
We have to understand God’s nature to fully know the Lord of Hosts. The Lord of Battles can tell us exactly how to defend against the enemy. He will counsel us on how to battle and how to win victories over the devil.
I believe that as the last days approach us warfare will begin to intensify and the battles will begin to get harder and harder to fight. More wickedness and viciousness will come against us. The body of believers will bless the world. Believers will stand up with Jesus and with His strength, the Lord of Hosts will lead us in battle and to victory.
6 “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7 I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. 8 ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. 9 ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
