dokimion – Greek Word Study
It is time again, for another Greek word study. I am so excited to bring this word to you because it is not often found in scripture. In fact, it is only found twice. I hope you enjoy learning more about scripture. If you have not subscribed to the newsletter please take the time to do so.
dokimion- The trial or testing of something
Occurrences (Italics added)
James 1:3 – So that you know the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
1 Peter 1:7(NLT) – These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
I just want us to meditate on these two verses for a few minutes, they are SO powerful!
Watch this video on how gold is refined:
I want you to take special notice in the last minute of this video. When the metal is placed in the furnace when the scraps are poured out they have to make sure that all of the impurities have risen to the top and if there is any gold still mixed with the imperfections then it has to take another round in the furnace. This is a very modern version of what had to take place 2000 years ago but without all of the fancy machinery. The person refining the gold would wait for the imperfections to rise to the top then he would slice them off, then he would place the gold back in the furnace and allow the process to happen all over. The only way that the man would know the gold was done is if he see’s his reflection perfectly in the bar of gold.
This is what this word is referring to, us going through trials and God sanctifying us (while we are in the furnace) then he will pull us out cutting the imperfections off, and every time they are cut off from our life, we look a little bit more like Jesus.
What a perfect picture of Gods love for us!
