Sin’s Effect on the World

Sins Effect on the World

In the beginning was God and nothing else. Out of his glory, power and perfectly infinite goodness he created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1)! Then he made the earth, creating the heavens, and the oceans and dry ground. On the Earth, God created all biotic and abiotic things. He covered the earth in vegetation and crops, and created animals and livestock and all things that creep (Genesis 1:25). He saw that all these things were “good”. Then God said, “Let us make man”, and so he made man in his own image to rule over all the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and the livestock and creatures of the land “Genesis 1:26”.  Then the bible says that God looked upon his creation and all the things he had made and behold they were, “VERY good”.

When God created the Earth, he made it very good. That means that on Gods standards everything on the earth and in the heavens and all that he had created was perfect and exactly how he made it to be. Earth was to be ruled over by man in a perfect harmony with God, where there was no death, no sin, and only goodness. And OH, how beautiful that sounds, humans walking in the Garden with the father basking in his goodness every day. But! God gave man one task and one responsibility, and that was to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The serpent was crafty and deceived Eve and Adam into eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. At that point! Man sinned against God splitting us from his righteousness and goodness. At that point, Sin entered the World.

Now that’s a story I assume most of us have read in the bible. The story of the Creation is one of the most beautiful accounts of Gods works in the entire bible. And the fall, as we refer to it, is arguably the lowest point of the Bible. This is because we, as humans, at that point were split from God and sinned against him bringing on 100% of his perfect wrath upon us. When sin entered the world, it changed everything. With sin came disease, famine, children dying at birth, labor pains, natural disasters, greed, and all evil things that are found under the sun. But most vividly sin brought Death into the world.

Paul addresses this death that we now are under in his letter to Rome saying, “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God” Romans 3:23. Now due to sin entering the world, we are no longer born into a perfect standing with God, but instead, we are born into sin and unrighteousness, meaning that we are bound to our sins in this world while we are on earth.

Earlier in the letter Paul explains another effect that sin had on us he says, “Therefore God gave them up in the lust of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves” Romans 1:24

We know the effects of sin on our world, in fact, we see it every day. Children are not perfect, parents don’t spend their time trying to teach their kids to be selfish, or to cry and whine and complain, they don’t teach their kids to throw fits when they don’t get what they want (as I understand it). That would just be weird if your kid was so perfect that you had to teach them how to do bad things. Instead, parents teach their kids how to be good, to behave, and be polite. This is because sin is inherent on our lives. We are born into it. Nobody told me growing up that I should be more of know it all, no that was just my sinful nature to always try and correct everyone. I was kind of a turd growing up. Because sin has twisted what God meant for our relationship with him to be we now suffer for the fall of man.

Again, if you were to just turn on the news right now what would you see? Well, I did it for you and it doesn’t take very long to pick up on the bad things in this world. For instance, most news stations think were about to dive head first into World War 3 with what just happened between the U.S. and Syria. Also, terrible thunderstorms and tornadoes have been ripping through the east coast last week causing a lot of damage to homes, and has also caused bad flooding many parts of the eastern coast. If we just take a minute to look for sin and its effects in our world it’s obvious that it is all around us.

With all this in mind, it can leave you heavy hearted about our standing with God, and how far the world is from him, and how sin has affected man so severely. But! Praise the Lord for he is a gracious and a good God! And he calls the elect to himself saving them and sanctifying them upon their death to have an eternal and perfectly righteous standing with him. Through what Jesus did on the Cross for us, erasing the sins of our life he became the perfect sacrifice for our sins. So that can now God look down on me and can see no wrong because Christ took that wrong from my life and erased it forever freeing me and you from the sting of sin and DEATH.

In Revelation God revealed to us the most beautiful, well revelation, about the times to come. John recorded that, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4. The joy that this brings me is incredible. I know that one day God will restore me and he will wipe away every tear I have ever cried, and any pain I have ever felt. He will renew all things and we will be able to be in his presence forever praising him always. Sin did enter this world and cause a lot of chaos on earth, but nothing is more powerful than God and he will save us from our tribulations, so take heart Christian and find Joy in the race we run. Fight sin everyday knowing that Christ is of infinitely more worth in your life. And one day we will all be joined together in heaven with no pain or sorrow praising the God who saved us from our Sins!
