Ministries of the Holy Spirit.
2nd Corinthians 1:15-22
15 Because I was sure of this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a second experience of grace. 16 I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea. 17 Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans according to the flesh, ready to say “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. 20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
Now I really want to focus in on 2 verses in particular:
21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
1. Anointed You
The oil also seems to represent the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called “holy” because of the work He does in the believer’s lives. The Apostle John wrote “you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge” (1st John 2:20) and we know the Spirit of God teaches us for “the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him” (1st John 2:27).
2. Sealing You
Here are some of the meanings behind “Being Sealed”
- Paid in Full
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
3. Down Payment
This is a pledge to finish, what has been started.
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
