Heart for Worship

If you do not already know, worship is a huge part of my walk with Christ. I am going on my third year of being a part of some worship teams and have given the privilege to lead worship throughout my experience. Currently, I am a part of the worship team at my home church here in Tallahassee, City Church, for their college ministry and absolutely loving it! Since worship is a huge part of my walk with Christ, I thought I would share some songs that I really enjoy singing to. In my opinion, these songs have a lot of truths that I need to be reminded of when I am worshipping and just in my everyday life. Before I give you my whole list I just wanted to briefly share, not necessarily my favorite songs, but my most sentimental worship songs to me.

“Our God” – Chris Tomlin

When I was about 10 years old, I went to a summer camp called CIY Believe with my youth group at the time. I do not remember much about the week we spent at that camp but the one thing that I always remembered was this song. This was the song that pierced my soul and aided in the process of Jesus capturing my heart for the first time at that moment. So, this song was playing in the background when Jesus officially called me His own.

“Close” – Lauren Daigle

This was the first song I had ever lead for my youth group and it has been my “signature” song since. Leading this song was the first step in my ministry of worship so it will always hold a very special place in my heart.

“Ever Be” – Bethel Music

This was my first “big time” song because I sang this the first time I lead at Sunday morning services at my church back home. This was the second big step I had made in my growth of becoming a worship leader.

The songs that I am about to list are the songs that I find that I always go back to. They have helped me with my walk; giving me the words I didn’t know I wanted to say. Below each song title is my favorite line from the song that can help you get an idea of what the song is kind of about!! Without further ado…

“Your Glory/Nothing But the Blood” – All Sons & Daughters

“and the heartbeat of my life is to worship in Your light”

“You Hold It All Together” – All Sons & Daughters

“lifted high, in Your mercy, out of sorrow and made new”

 “Pieces” – Amanda Cook

“unreserved, unrestrained. Your love is wild, Your love is wild for me”

“Reckless Love” – Cory Asbury

“i couldn’t earn it, i don’t deserve it, still You give yourself away”

“You Are My God” – Derek Johnson

“and You have given me life and a place by Your side forever”

“Blessed Assurance” – Elevation Worship

“death could not hold You, You are victorious. praise to the risen King”

“I Can’t Believe” – Elevation Worship

“i can’t believe, the price You paid for me. what You did not owe so that i could know You”

“Word Alive” – Grace City Music

“i can’t conceal, i’ll never hide. this Word alive”

“Even When It Hurts”- Hillsong United

“even when it’s hard to find the words, louder then i’ll sing Your praise”

“Peace” – Hillsong Y&F

“all anxiety bows in the presence of Jesus the Keeper of Peace. and Peace is the promise He keeps”

“To My Knees” – Hillsong Y&F

“You are all my heart desires, until the end of time, my soul surrendered”

“Only Wanna Sing” – Hillsong Y&F

“more than a song that lasts for a moment, i’ll live a life full of worship”

“Gracious Tempest” – Hillsong Y&F (Taya Smith version)

“a downpour of unending grace, consuming all my reckless ways”

“In Awe” – Hollyn

“i’m livin’ in awe, cause You don’t need me at all but You couldn’t love me more”

“What Love Is This?” – Kari Jobe

“and standing here beneath the shadow of the cross, i’m overwhelmed that i keep finding open arms”

“Altar” – SEU Worship

“here i give my everything, surrendered at the altar of my King”

“Though You Slay me” – Shane & Shane

“though You slay me, yet I will praise You”

“You’re Beautiful” – Shane & Shane

“now You are sitting on Your heavenly throne, soon You will be coming home. you’re beautiful”

“Lovely” – Hollyn is also a really good song you should give a listen! I didn’t want to include it in the above list because it isn’t technically “worship”. This song just sings over you how God thinks of you; purely lovely. So, check that out if you need to be reminded of how God sees you.

“Synthesia” – Bethel (w/o words) is a great album to just sit and resonate on. It is one of their newest albums revamped without any words. I know it seems a little odd but this is the perfect soundtrack to play when reading your bible or just thinking in your own thoughts. This album is so calming with the alluding Gospel “feel” to it. You’ll understand what I mean when you give it a listen…

Alright well I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about my taste in music and what speaks to me!! Let me know in the comments if you tried any of these songs out and if you liked them! I hope I gave you guys some new songs to try out and hopefully develop a love for worship as much as I do 🙂

Lord, I thank you for giving this amazing gift of music as something we can thoroughly enjoy and something we can use to bring You praise. I pray that we don’t see worship as only a Sunday activity we participate in, but as a lifestyle that we live in. I thank You for using worship as a means for bringing me closer to Yourself and equipping me to be a better steward of You. I pray over all of the musicians that faithfully lead people in worship, give them endurance and a fresh love each morning for the talents they get to use to glorify Your Name.
