Self-Control | By: Bayli Webb
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Self-control is probably one of the hardest things to come by. How many times have you given into bad habits, wrong mindsets and lame attitudes? We try and make promises to ourselves or get friends to keep us accountable, but in the end we still find it so difficult to overcome what’s in us. If this is you then there’s great news because our God knows our weaknesses and is the problem solver!
Galatians 5:22, 23 says “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
The only way to gain self-control is allowing the holy spirit to control us. The key point is not effort but surrender, to be submissively trusting in the Lord rather than flesh. In Galatians vs. 16 Paul says this is what it means to “walk by the spirit”. If we want the fruit of the spirit to grow in us, we must join our lives to his (John 15:4, 5) we must know Him, love Him and imitate Him. In results we will fulfill the intended purpose of the law- to love God and our neighbors. It’s not too late to make a change, for God is in you. Surrender control to Him, He will help you bear the fruit of His likeness!
Lord, I am in need of You, help me to see what I am blinded too. I surrender myself to You, help me to reflect You Jesus and to be submissive to You that I might be filled with Your spirit.
in Jesus name, Amen.
